WHERE DID YOU GET THE IDEA FOR THE CYBER CROWN SERIES?

I’ve been a science fiction super nerd for as long as I can remember. In fact, growing up I collected all things Star Wars and Star Trek (with equal love for both). Roughly five years ago I took a plane from my hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, to my now-town of Tucson, Arizona. At the time, countries argued about how to properly shelter and provide for refugees. I wondered how that situation would change if we had a worldwide monarchy, and how the horrible effects of conflict would reverberate for generations to come within the confines of a science fiction world. I saw so many news reports of the strength and resiliency of those displaced by conflict; it was then that the survive-at-all-costs nature of my main character, Tesla, was born.  Although the book is not meant to be a political statement, I do hope I did justice to the humanity and iron resolves of those who have faced similar trials.

WHICH AUTHORS INFLUENCE YOU THE MOST?

I don’t know of a single YA author who won’t say J. K. Rowling, because her imagination is simply unmatched. On the science fiction side of things, I would say that I’ve been influenced by Bruce Coville during my younger years and Amie Kaufman lately. However, I tend to absorb influence from whatever I’m currently reading.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO SELF-PUBLISH YOUR SERIES?

Because it’s exciting! Ten years ago, self-publishing was a murky quagmire of questionable quality. Everything was very new, and the path was still very untrod. Indie authors now make up a huge portion of the standard book market and I’m absolutely thrilled to be one of them. I also retain more control over my book content, which means I can publish the story exactly as it grew in my mind.

DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER BOOKS PLANNED BEYOND THE CYBER CROWN SERIES?

Absolutely. I have two fantasy series in the works, though the release dates for those have yet to be announced. For more information, you can sign up for the Restoration Newsletter.

DO YOU OFFER BOOKS TO BLOGGERS FOR REVIEW?

Yes, though it’s much easier for me to give out electronic copies. I do offer physical copies to readers chosen for the Street Team. For more information on how to join that list, you can click on the STREET TEAM link above.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO ASPIRING AUTHORS?

Write the story! For years I called myself a writer, even though I wasn’t working on my craft. Writing is like any other talent – you have to practice, practice, practice. Also, I’m a firm believer that you cannot be a good writer unless you regularly read books from the genre/audience market you plan to join.
